The SASTRA University came into existence in 1984. This university is also known as the Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy . This is a deemed university which was located at Thirunmalaisamudram , Thanjavau district. This is only the first university in Tamil Nadu which was established as a deemed university.

The university offers under graduate and post graduate degree courses for the students in many streams. The university has the faculty in engineering, research, science, maths, biology, commerce, business administration, doctoral programs, management etc. There are a  lot of colleges which are affiliated with this university.  The Tata Consultancy Services software company in 2011, recruit 1755 students from the SASTRA university.

There are a lot of colleges which are affiliated by the university. The SASTRA university has a large library system in which all kinds of academic books are available for  the students. The university conducts the exams in  April, May. The result will be declared in July , August. All the best for all the students for their results.
