This university was established under the act of the Government of Punjab and Pakistan .The name of the main campus of Gujarat university name after a local sufi saint Hafiz Muhammad Hayat.

University of Gujarat created by the brainchild of Chaudhry Perviaz Elahhe who was the chief minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007. Dr.Muhammad Nizamuddin is the Vice Chancellor of University of Gujarat. He was awarded the “Nineteenth Star Award 2008” and selected as the “Man of the Year 2008” in the field of education in recognition of his outstanding achievements.

The Gujarat university have different department and different college in all over the India. Gujarat university is the very largest university in among all that universities in the education background. In the Gujarat university more than 2 lakh student over the 235 college,15 recognized institution ,24 approved. In this in Post graduation degree programme 34 college and the 221 P.G.
