The university of Burdwan came with a motive to provide higher education in technical and research background .This is the university in the state of West Bengal known as a best affiliating university. It is very oldest university which is established in 1960 . This university is funded by the government of West Bengal. This university started its functioning on June 15, 1960. The university has five main campuses in these city names are Burdwan, Birbhum, Bankura, Purulila and Hooghly. This is well known university and has been awarded by the National Assessment and Accrediation Council with the Five Stars.

Burdwan University has a large campus which is spread over an area of 398 acres. There are 139 colleges which are affiliated with this university. Sukumar Sen (ICS) was the first vice chancellor of this university. The university provided 30 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs. The department’s named are  science, Arts, Commerce, Computer science, Civil, Research, Geography, Microbiology, Maths, Mass communication etc.
