- Virender Sehwag is India's explosive opening batsman, and also a useful spin bowler.
- Sehwag scored a 100 on his Test debut against South Africa at Bloemfontein in 2001, he then went from strength to strength scoring 80 & 100 in his first two games on tour in England.
- On March 29, 2004 he became the first ever Indian batsman and only the 4th Asian batsman to score 300 runs in a Test innings, playing against Pakistan at Multan, even more impressive he reached the milestone with a six. He went on to get a total of 309.
- When partnering with Rahul Dravid versus Pakistan in the 2005-06 season, they set the highest opening partnership for a Test match played away from home (India) scoring 410 runs. They were only four runs short of making the highest opening partnership in Test cricket.
- In 2007 he helped India to win the inaugural World Twenty20 in South Africa, forming an exciting opening partnership with Gautam Gambhir.
- Four years after scoring his first triple century, he reached a similar milestone, taking the South African attack apart in Chennai. This time his triple century was the fastest in Test history and he was also the first batsman to score 250 in one day in more than 50 years.
