This university initially known as the Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College. In the year of 1920 , this university is known as the Aligarh University. The founder of this university was Sir Syed Ahmed Khan as Madrasatul Uloom Musalmanan-e-Hind. Aligarh University is the first university in India of the Muslim principle. The Aligarh university is a public with central university. This is the largest university of Uttar Pradesh which was spread over an area of 467.46 acres of the Aligarh.

There are a lot of students are taking admission in the university. The university has 278 affiliated colleges in the state. The university has total 300 departments at the level of under graduation and post graduation. The university provides the degree  courses in arts, science, language, education, engineering, research, medicine, business administration and much more. The languages taught here include English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Kashmiri, French, Turkish, German and Russian.
